Sculptural, functional and tactile, the Eclipse Desk is an exploration and celebration of materials and form.

Designed for MENU by Fred Rigby Studio, the asymmetrical piece originated as a hand-drawn line that looked to the shape of pebbles for its design cues. Crafted from solid, dark-oiled oak polished to a high shine finish, the sweeping tabletop has intriguing convex and concave edges. It rests on a gently curved leg and a steel column, the latter of which cleverly conceals a storage bucket under its integrated wooden lid, ensuring a clutter free surface that underpins the streamlined beauty of the organic design. Imagined as both a standalone centrepiece in the middle of a room or for placement up against a wall as a more conventional piece of furniture, the intriguing form of the Eclipse Desk draws the eye and invites to touch while offering a sense of calmness that lends itself to productivity. “I found inspiration for the piece by looking to the shapes and forms of pebbles I collected on a beach. I wanted to create a design that wasn’t static, and one which was bold in colour yet tactile in form. I want people to feel inspired when they sit at it. To lean back and touch the curved edge; to find a calmness within to focus on work.” - Fred Rigby
