Established in 2018 by Evan Jerry, Studio Anansi was named after a trickster figure of West African and Caribbean folklore. An anthropomorphic spider god, Anansi’s archetypal web reflects Jerry’s own intricately woven story. He is of Afro-Caribbean origin, has lived in Canada, the UK, Mexico, and Finland. With Studio Anansi, Jerry contributes a critical perspective to contemporary design by addressing the West’s erasure of Africa’s influence. His works take inspiration from African forms and motifs while creating an honest (and healing) narrative between African and Western cultures.
